What is Vertex AI?

It’s the renowned version (successor) of the AI Platform with added features (just like any other product).

It is one place where you can use autoML and custom-trained models ranging from transfer learning to machine learning models from scratch.

Main Features:

• AutoML solutions for image, text, tabular, and video data
• Custom model development, training, and deployment
• Deploy models with API endpoints
• Monitoring and logging integration with GCP

For AutoML and custom model training — save models, deploy models, and request predictions with Vertex AI.

Who is it for?

Everyone who wants to learn, train, and deploy ML solutions with Google Cloud Platform or any VM in Cloud.

If you just want to create and experiment with ML models with libraries and frameworks then Google Colab or Kaggle Kernels can be used. They both have Free GPU support (limited).

Where to learn about Vertex AI?

• This playlist from Google Cloud is a nice sharting point to get a basic idea about vertex ai services.
• Qwiklabs: Collection of (free) online labs, quests, and courses to learn any service on GCP. If you’re working for a GCP partner then you can learn all services for free. If you’re a student then you can apply for Qwiklabs credits and learn GCP services.
• Vertex AI documentation: if you want to go in-depth in any service then it’s the right place.

Suggestions

• Use Qwiklabs to learn as you can get credits for free most of the time.
• Don’t try AutoML much with Google Free Tier credits.
• If you’re a student then explore Qwiklabs solution in-depth as you can learn most GCP services for free.
• If you’re working for a GCP partner then you can learn for free also. Your company will bear the training cost if any.
• The most effective way to learn would be to start with the playlist, do some qwiklabs, and practice with the free tier.
